Difficulty ratings differ. Nina Ottosson rates two puzzles level 1, four level 2, three level 3, and MultiPuzzle alone level 4.
Supervise play and put puzzles away afterward; none is a chew toy.

Choose the action your dog will practise
Nina Ottosson by Outward Hound gives these puzzles difficulty levels from 1 to 4. Dog Smart at level 1 uses lifting covers, Dog Brick at level 2 uses flipping, lifting and sliding, and MultiPuzzle at level 4 uses spinning, sliding and locking. Difficulty is the maker’s scale, not a prediction of how quickly your dog will solve a puzzle.
Even at level 2, Dog Hide N’ Slide uses swivelling and sliding while Treat Maze uses filling and shaking. Start with the play action you want to supervise. We compare Nina Ottosson’s challenge labels and mechanisms without timing dogs solving the puzzles.
Removable covers change what you need to watch
Dog Brick has removable covers; Dog Hide N’ Slide has built-in pieces. Piece design is known for 8 of the 10 puzzles, with MultiPuzzle and Treat Tumble lacking that detail here. An unknown design cannot satisfy a request for built-in pieces.
Supervise play, watch how your dog handles the pieces and put the puzzle away afterward. These puzzles are not chew toys. A higher difficulty level is not automatically preferable, and a built-in-pieces description does not remove the need to supervise.
Before you buy
Does a higher level mean a better toy?
It only means harder. The level is Nina Ottosson's label for how tricky the puzzle is, so start with one your dog can work through with a little help and move up from there. Nina Ottosson rates two at level 1, four at level 2, three at level 3 and the MultiPuzzle alone at level 4. Pieces differ too. Among those that say, removable covers stop at level 2 and every level 3 puzzle is built-in. Supervise play and put it away afterward; none is a chew toy.
Are size variants counted as separate products?
They aren't. One Treat Tumble size (Small) and one Hide N' Slide version appear here, so pick the size you want on the maker's page.
What does an unknown piece design mean?
The Treat Tumble and MultiPuzzle descriptions don't say clearly whether pieces come off, so both drop out when you ask for built-in pieces or removable covers. If loose parts worry you, the Treat Maze and Hide N' Slide keep their pieces built in at a lower level than the Casino, Worker and Twister; otherwise look at the product photos or ask the maker.
