How far does a dose of dechlorinator go?

It varies fiftyfold. By each label, 5 mL treats 1 gal (Aqueon Betta Bowl Plus), 10 gal (Microbe-Lift Xtreme, Zoo Med ReptiSafe) or 50 gal (Seachem Prime).

ReptiSafe, sold for reptiles, makes no ammonia claim; dose from the label.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

Concentration matters more than bottle size

Seachem Prime specifies 5 ml for 50 gal, while Aqueon Betta Bowl Plus specifies 5 ml for 1 gal. Microbe-Lift Xtreme specifies 5 ml for 10 gal. These are product-specific dose pairs, not interchangeable instructions. Follow the complete label for the conditioner and water you are treating.

Bottle volume is known for 3 products, so a larger bottle cannot settle value across this selection.

Pond and reptile labels describe different jobs

Seachem Pond Prime carries a decorative-pond use label; Zoo Med ReptiSafe carries an aquatic-reptile label. Seachem Prime and Microbe-Lift Xtreme carry freshwater-saltwater labels. Choose the intended environment before borrowing a dose or treatment claim from a familiar brand.

Read the treatment claims on your own bottle

Chloramine information exists for 7 products. For the rest, missing information means the label still needs checking, rather than proving that the conditioner lacks that function. Prime carries an ammonia-detoxification claim; ReptiSafe does not. Keep chlorine, chloramine and ammonia claims separate. No water-treatment measurements or fish-health observations accompany the conditioner dose and application documentation.

Before you buy

Can this page work out my dose?

It can’t. Use the directions on the bottle you buy, since formulas differ in strength and purpose, and this page doesn’t turn your tank size into an amount. It varies fiftyfold. By each label, 5 mL treats 1 gal (Aqueon Betta Bowl Plus), 10 gal (Microbe-Lift Xtreme, Zoo Med ReptiSafe) or 50 gal (Seachem Prime). Prime’s 500 mL bottle covers 5,000 gal, which suits big tanks. ReptiSafe, sold for reptiles, makes no ammonia claim; dose from the label.

Why do 13 of these conditioners show no details?

Their figures had been copied from other products. Six shared one identical spec block, including a 16.9 oz bottle and a 1 mL per 50 gallon dose, so shared values were stripped. The API, Kordon, Tetra, Fritz, Hikari and Fluval conditioners stay on the page, but you’ll need their labels for doses.

Can I use a fish-tank conditioner in a pond or reptile tank?

Only where the label says so. Seachem sells Pond Prime for decorative ponds, and the water-type filter keeps pond, reptile and aquarium uses apart.
